Situational awareness is the understanding of an environment, including its elements and how they change over time. It involves three levels: perceiving the environment, comprehending its meaning, and predicting future status. Most RM systems on the market just track a person’s activity and may connect them to an emergency service if there is a problem – but the wearer has to be conscious and able to push buttons, which has been a problem with these systems. Remote monitoring is passive, situational awareness is active.
